Welcome in our chalet
Chalet Findling is free standing and lies on 1470m altitude on the south slope in Kippel in the splendid Lötschental. The Lötschental belongs partly to the UNESCO world heritage Jungfrau-Aletch-Bietschorn area. In summertime you can ride your car to our parking spot just down our chalet. In winterconditions this is only possible if your car allows this. Our chalet has a private parking place, the first spot beside the staircase which shows a sign "Privat". Remaining cars can be parked in the car park of the village (CHF 30, - per week for tenants to the Hockenalpstrasse) or at the valley station of the ski area.
Inside
Chalet Findling, with a surface of 90 m² is comfortably arranged for 6 persons. Through the entry you enter the first floor. Here you"ll find the wide living room with dinner- and seatingarea, which has nice fire place. The kitchen has a frigidaire, washing machine and a ceramic stove and is equipped entirely with everything you need to make your stay as nice as possible. In the pace beside the entry you"ll find the "Abstellraum", where you put your walking -, skiing shoes and coats. By opening the doors to the sunny terrace you are treated with a splendid view of the Lötschental. You will see the UNESCO world heritage, mountains with eternal snow, glaciers and the wildly flowing Lonza, which ends eventually in the Rhône. The ground floor has 3 two persons sleepingrooms of which one with a double bed, one with two single beds and one with a battery bed. An extra baby bed is present. Als downstairs are the bathroom and a separate toilet. Bed - and kitchenlinnen are present, you must only take along towels.
Kippel
Kippel is at the centre of the Lötschental. The picturesque village characterises itself by very old houses and chalets. The high houses at the small and large square date from the seventeenth century. Most of the streets in Kippel and in the other villages in the valley, Ferden, Wiler, Ried and Blatten, have no names. The valley counts only 1400 inhabitants and people know each other very good. The population is pleasan and keeps several folk uses in score, among which the "Frohleichnamsfest". At this procession, the population wears traditional clothes. Young women wear white dresses and walk along with soldiers of Swiss Garde of the vaticaan. During the Carnival festivities, the young men run with wooden masks and cow bels through the streets. When you drive into Kippel you will see Chalet Findling on the south mountain slope left among a few other chalets. Kippel and the surrounding villages have several restaurants and cafés. For the daily purchases you will find several shops in Kippel and Willer located.
Route
From Basel, the Lötschental is best accessible through Bern-Thun-Spiez-Frutigen-Kandersteg. Here you go with the car on the car train direction Goppenstein (12 minutes). Leaving the car train it will take 5 minutes to reach Kippel. The car train leaves every half hour from 5.30 till 24.00. From Basel to Kippel is approximately a two hours drive. Kippel is also accessible through the Rhône Valey (Basel-Bern-Martigny or Genève-Lausanne-Martigny), the entrance to the Lötschental lies at Gampel-Steg halfway Sierre and Brig. In the Lötschental you are obliges to have snow collars with you.
Summer
The possibilities for hiking in the Lötschental are enormous. Summer and autumn are very sunny and loved for hiking vacation. Wallis has an average of 300 sunny days per year! The "Lötschentaler Höhenweg" runs on approx. 2000 meters altitude through the entire valley and is well practicable for young and old. You hike along the tree border, mountain meadows and the Schwarzsee, in which you can take a fresh dive. The Lötschentaler Höhenweg is well accessible by means of little pahts from the villages or through the valley station of ski area Lauchernalp. A popular walk is from Fafleralp, through the Lötschentaler Höhenweg to Lauchernalp and return with the lift to Kippel (or the other way around). At a lower level, along the river the Lonza, a hiking route also runs through the entire valley. You come along meadows, mountain huts and the remainders of avalanches. From the bridge overng the Lonza at Ried you have a splendid view on the wild river. From Fafleralp you can follow the UNESCO trail to the Langgletscher. For the more practised walker there are hiking routes to mountain huts, as an aim of a day walk, such as the Bietschhornhütte, Lötschenpasshütte and Anenhütte. Also to moutainbikers and mountaineers the Lötschental offers a considerable number of challenges. At the tourist office in the valley station you will find further information. Winter
The valley station of the modern and multi-purpose ski area Lauchernalp lies on the edge of Kippel, on walking distance of Chalet Findling. The ski area (1400-3111m) is very sunny and snow-certain from December to May. You can make descents in several difficulty degrees, the longest descent bridges almost a 2000m height. The practised skier and snowboarder can take a descent to our chalets parking spot. Both for beginners and for practised and for little children the possibilities at Lauchernalp are ideal. Besides the prepared pistes there are many off-piste possibilities. Even the Swiss ski team trains in the Lötschental and in 2005, the national Swiss championships alpine skiing were kept here. Beside the pistes you"ll find several restaurants with sunterraces with a fantastic view on the Bietschorn, Monte Rosa massive, Breithorn, Weisshorn and Matterhorn. In the valley a number of langlaufloipes and winter hiking routes run between Ferden and Fafleralp and between Kippel and Lauchernalp. On 3200 meters altitude the Lötschental offers the highest winter hiking route of Europe.
